Hello!

I was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and moved to England to study journalism in 2023.  

I learned I had a passion for writing at 7 years old when I had a school assignment. I wrote a story about a frog being alienated from his peers and the words flew out of me. To this day, nothing has felt more comfortable and since then, writing has always been my solace.

This blog is focused on how I have learned to embrace my femininity, fashion, and beauty. For me, becoming a woman was a gradual process filled with trial and error. I was a very awkward child who preferred wearing my older brother's hand-me-downs. As I grew up, the awkwardness stayed, and I hid from who I was to appease others and to become invisible. I had always been interested in fashion; I read my mother's Vogue magazines and often would sneak in her closet to wear all her clothes. Although having an interest does not automatically install skill. I’ve tried way too many fashion trends and styles and have only recently uncovered the style that makes me feel most confident. 

 

I started learning about makeup when I was around 13. I had bad acne (still do!) and was so ashamed to leave my house every day. Makeup gave me the freedom to leave the house with a small resemblance of confidence. When I was around 15, I learned that makeup is not just about covering your skin, but it can be an outlet for creativity. I quickly learned that although I am creative, my artistic skills were mediocre at best. People on YouTube and Instagram seemed so good at what they did; I could never be as skilled as they are (still am not). So, I had to teach myself my own methods for creating looks with very little artistic skill. And these methods, I hope to share with you.  

 

That is what this blog is about– my tribulations and how I am learning to be the woman 8-year-old me deserves. The kind of woman who moves with grace, confidence, elegance, and really good, winged eyeliner.   

That is where the name ‘Poised in Progress’ comes from. My journey is fluid; it is always going and probably will never stop. You will quickly begin to realize that I am not perfect, I do not know how to create a perfect blowout or know how to make green eyeshadow look good. But on this journey, which I hope you will take with me, we will learn together– we will make mistakes and maybe even fall victim to silly social media trends.   

 

That is what separates this blog from others. I am not claiming to be the best or know everything about fashion and beauty. I don't have all the tools I need to be the woman I want to be, but with your help and input, we can become who we want together. Ultimately, this blog is about building a community of people who enjoy learning and growing in the face of fashion and beauty.   

 

So, tuck in and embrace your feminine side. This journey cannot happen without you and your support. I hope it will be as enjoyable for you as it is for me!
